The Boulton Paul Defiant was quickly outclassed as a day fighter during the Battle of Britain but was reassigned to defend Britain from Luftwaffe night bombing raids. Not originally trained for night fighting, crews developed their own interception tactics. The Defiant became one of the RAF’s most distinctive nocturnal fighters in WWII.
